The passenger detained on an airplane in Detroit Christmas morning said he was acting on behalf of Al Qaeda when he attempted but failed to detonate an incendiary or explosive device, U.S. officials said Friday evening.
Abdul Mudallad, a 23-year-old Nigerian claimed to be acting on behalf of al-Qaida when he attempted, but failed, to detonate a device that is being described as very sophisticated. The White House responded by increasing air travel security to the appropriate measures. Mudallad is currently in the custody of the U.S Customs and Border Protection.
