Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka has been hit by floods, and that too floods that are set to break 100 years records.
So far over One lakh people have been evacuated from the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh and are being sent to rescue camps. Tonight Krishna Rivers levels are expected to hit a 100-year high.
The floods in areas along the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka are so serious that the army, air force, and navy are all involved in rescue operations.
Terming the flood situation as “SERIOUS”, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah said army personnel were deployed for rescue and relief operations.
Six helicopters have also been pressed into service to rescue people. While four helicopters are being used to airlift the flood-hit in Kurnool district, two choppers were deployed in Mahabubnagar district. A helicopter rescued 15 people in Mantralayam town.
Six power boats of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation were also being used to rescue people.
Most-affected are the Kurnool district in Western Andhra Pradesh, and Bijapur, Belgaum, Bellary in Northern Karnataka.
The floods have been caused after exceptionally heavy rain this week left the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers with more water than ever before.
