At least 12 people were killed and 150 were injured when a massive fire broke out at Indian Oil Corporation's Jaipur oil depot on Thursday evening, 29th October 2009. The incident occurred in the Sitapur industrial area.
The fire broke out at around 7.30 pm, IST, when petrol was being transferred from the depot to a pipeline in the outskirts of Jaipur. Two huge explosions were heard first, followed by a major fire. Intensive efforts are being carried out to bring the fire under control. At least 35 fire brigades were rushed to the spot.
Officials said the injured were moved to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital and M.G. Hospital. Twenty ambulances were helping in the rescue work.
Power supply to the area around the depot was cut off as a safety measure.
Residents of the area were asked to leave their homes and move to safety.

The Met department recorded a tremor measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale around the time the first explosion was heard. Such was the impact of the explosions that windows of houses even 3km away were damaged.
Security personnel have cordoned off the area. Experts from Mumbai and Mathura are reaching the IOC Fuel depot to access the damage. The Army has been called in to help in the rescue operations.
